Detect the risks of having a stroke
Detection of people that are at risk of a stroke is essential. Taking action to find people with conditions that are known to increase their risk of having a stroke especially Atrial Fibrillation (AF) (an irregular heart beat) and high blood pressure will have a positive impact on the health outcomes of the Morecambe Bay community.
There are some quick checks you can make to help identify whether you are at risk of a stroke:
- Know your numbers – check your pulse. Is it bouncing up and down or nice & regular? If you are between the age of 40 and 74 year old, you should be having an NHS health check every 5 years. Your GP practice provides this service and contact them to find out more.
- Check your weight, being very overweight and having excess body fat, is another major treatable risk factor for a stroke.
